But are these discussions enough to create international harmonization

Post by Shishirgano9 »

The UK hosted the first global summit on AI security on 1-2 November at Bletchley Park. the site where Alan Turing cracked the Enigma code during World War II. The event. which brought together a select group of government officials. tech companies and experts. provided an opportunity to discuss the potential risks of AI . This is the second major call for AI regulation this week. following Joe Biden’s speech on 30 October.

At the end of the summit. 28 countries signed the “ Bletchley kuwait telegram Declaration .” an agreement to work on international security standards . Most of the major American AI companies—including OpenAI. Google DeepMind. Anthropic. Amazon. Microsoft. and Meta—also signed a non-binding agreement to “ allow governments to test their models for security risks before making them public .” reports journalist Casey Newton. Another notable point is that both the United States and the United Kingdom will launch their own safety institutes to test new types of AI and anticipate their potential dangers. including “ social harms such as bias and misinformation. to the most unlikely but extreme risk. such as the complete loss of control of AI by humanity . ” the British embassy said in an email.

The very creation of two different institutes sows doubt. How will governments with diametrically opposed cultures and objectives agree on standards? In the race for AI. each country is deploying strategies to attract the most successful technology companies to their country . “ Each wants to play a leading role in setting the rules governing the development of AI. knowing that this could also help tip the balance in favor of its own national priorities and companies. ” analyzes The Guardian .
