Abidjan, March 9, 2023 (AIP) – At the 67th pakistan mobile database of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), the Minister of Women, Family and Children, Nassénéba Touré, presented on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in New York, the achievements of Côte d'Ivoire in terms of digital inclusion of women.
The minister reiterated President Alassane Ouattara's commitment to ensuring inclusion and gender equality through technological innovation in the digital age. This is achieved through training women in digital and technology fields and also by ensuring a secure cyberspace, according to a ministry briefing note.
She recalled the country's ratification, in March 2019, of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and the establishment in 2011 of the Platform for Combating Cybercrime (PLCC). "These instruments facilitate the development of technological innovations for women, in a secure cyberspace."
In addition, the Government has invested $3.2 billion for the deployment of the National Digital Development Strategy (2021-2025) aimed at making Côte d'Ivoire a hub for technological innovation in Africa.
Addressing technological infrastructure, she cited the implementation of 7,000 km of fiber optics, enabling the construction of 3,000 cyber centers for both urban and rural communities. This will help reach 46% of female internet users.
Regarding the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP 2021-2025), as part of the structural transformation of the economy and the modernization of the State, the Government plans massive investments in e-administration, e-Banking, e-Commerce, e-Education, and e-Health. These are sectors that primarily affect women.
Nassénéba Touré concluded that these initiatives are accompanied by a policy of empowerment and skills development. Thus, with the support of the United Nations, the "Right to Inclusive Education" project has reduced the illiteracy rate from 51% to 40% among women, while the professional integration of young girls in digital professions is improved through digital centers spread across the country.
The national theme for International Women's Day (IWD 2023) is "Technological and digital innovation: levers for the social and economic inclusion of women and girls in Côte d'Ivoire." Globally, the theme is "For an inclusive digital world: innovation and technologies for gender equality."
