With Google Penguin, it's not so much the type of link that's the issue, but how you acquire it

There are 3 ways to segment your link acquisition policy:
Editorial links: links over which you have little or no direct influence. These links were created because your content, your communication, your promotional actions are of quality and the community (your fans, your followers) that gravitates around your brand think that it is worth talking about and discussing it within blogs, forums, social spaces like Facebook, Twitter, etc. These links will almost never lose their value.

Example: My company creates an interactive infographic which is then distributed, discussed, and linked on numerous blogs and social media.

Promoted links: Links created oman mobile database through guest blogging, collaboration with blogs, or other means. These may include sponsored posts on influential blogs. These links won't cause any problems if they help increase brand exposure and awareness, drive traffic to your site, and generate user interaction through comments. If, however, the quality is questionable, they may lose value, but they're unlikely to harm you or your SEO.

Example: My company offers a €50 voucher in exchange for an article and a link on an influential blog.

Manipulated links: Links over which you have complete control and which exist solely to boost search engine rankings. These links are high-risk and very likely to lose their value. In some cases, they can harm you and hurt your SEO.

Example: Offers from some SEO agencies that promise you manual listing in 500 directories, or 500 backlinks for €539... or they use tools like Scrapebox to insert comments with links into 500 WordPress blogs!
