HostGator vs. DreamHost – Speed and Uptime

Post by nusaiba129 »

The most important factors you need to consider when choosing a web hosting service are website speed and uptime. Web hosting companies often boast about their fast server response times and uptime guarantees.

To see if they live up to their hype, we signed up for their shared hosting plans and created a test site on HostGator and DreamHost. To mirror the live site environment on our test sites, we installed the default WordPress women database theme and added dummy content along with some images.

Next, we ran a few different performance tests on our test sites:

Pingdom Test: To monitor page load time.
Load Impact Test: To see how the server responds during a traffic spike.
Bitcatcha Test: To record server response time in 8 different international locations, completely ignoring content.
And here are our results:

speedtest hostgator
According to Pingdom, HostGator took 691ms to load when tested in Dallas. That’s faster than 94% of all sites tested.
